I love anyone with the dexterity to do multiple, seemingly disparate things well. Beyond that, though, the video he made for Violens’ song Violent Sensation Descends is really good (as is the song, incidentally). It straddles the line between music video and art, one foot comfortably planted on either side. Click “Read More” for the video.

If you’re thinking, “that dude looks like he’s from the eighties,” it’s because the man you are watching perform is — but the song he is singing is not. Caroline Polachek, the lead singer of Chairlift, edited and re-shot the newest music video by fellow Brooklyn band Violens using purely vintage footage of George Michael. Beyond the obvious humor of watching an eighties pop star grip a pole and lipsink to a ballad written two decades later, there is another peculiar irony: Phonetically, George Michael shares the same name as Violens frontman Jorge Elbrecht. And they also share a certain love of gold cross earrings. Seriously. If you happen to be in England next week, you can catch a glimpse of the band performing “Already Over,” and maybe even a glimmer of gold beneath Jorge’s ear.

The SXSW blur of daytime drinking, sunburned shoulders and a renewed love for agave plants has finally come to an end. The highlight of the week was last night’s Viva Radio party at Club Deville, with Brooklyn bands Iran and Violens, as well as Warlocks, Ponytail and others. The neon lights against a backdrop of Austin stone gave the whole event a Jetsons-meets-Flintstones vibe, with killer projections by video artist Molly Rogers during the Warlocks performance. It’s a shame she didn’t project for all the bands — it added a visual dexterity and ambiance that was missing during many SXSW shows.
