Chairlift is totally at it again. They’re famous for making the first video to use data-moshing, Evident Utensil (even before Kanye could drop his similar technology video) as well as making the most amazing Justin Beiber remixed video, where they imposed their own song onto his video seamlessly, essentially making Beiber lip-synch Chairlift. This time around, they released a video trailer late last night for their up-coming album that features the band wandering around an empty house in Miami, which is actually them super-imposed onto footage hijacked from a real estate website. The text running along the bottom of the screen are lyrics from each of the songs being excerpted from the new album. Summer? Check. Chairlift’s new album? Check. Watermelon and beer? Check. Party time.

If you’re thinking, “that dude looks like he’s from the eighties,” it’s because the man you are watching perform is — but the song he is singing is not. Caroline Polachek, the lead singer of Chairlift, edited and re-shot the newest music video by fellow Brooklyn band Violens using purely vintage footage of George Michael. Beyond the obvious humor of watching an eighties pop star grip a pole and lipsink to a ballad written two decades later, there is another peculiar irony: Phonetically, George Michael shares the same name as Violens frontman Jorge Elbrecht. And they also share a certain love of gold cross earrings. Seriously. If you happen to be in England next week, you can catch a glimpse of the band performing “Already Over,” and maybe even a glimmer of gold beneath Jorge’s ear.

A few days shy of embarking on an extensive North American/European tour, Brooklyn’s Chairlift stopped by The Journal’s Williamsburg gallery to play a short, sweet and semi-secret show. Admittedly, I had been skeptical of the recent Columbia signees, but listening to Caroline Polachek sing “I’m feeling great tonight” from soon-to-be-reissued debut Does You Inspire You in front of what might be the smallest audience the band will ever perform for again, my conversion to “fan” was finalized. Candle-lit, intimate and beautifully-executed, the only complaint I heard voiced -– and which I echoed -– was a wish that the set had been longer. Those of us left wanting more, however, are out of luck until the trio comes home for a couple dates at the end of April.
