The first time I spoke to Vivienne Westwood, I was asking something about progress. Her articulate reply was, “There’s no future without culture.” This sentiment is something I’ll never forget. It clarified in my mind how Ms. Westwood conceptualizes life, art and fashion: It is influenced by the past, but always looking forward—a very English point of view. And it was precisely this blend of innovation and tradition that made the Vivienne Westwood S/S11 men’s collection, which was underlined by a globally oriented idea of climate change, energetic and intelligent.
