For S/S10, Savant’s designers, FengĀFeng Yeh and partner David Aliperti, staged an eclectic and youthful runway show. An Indonesian/Balinese influence was clear via the use of emerald green silk dragon print shorts, while breezy cotton organdy tops and dresses featured tribal printing and war masks. In addition, waxed feather skirts and precisely cut pajama tops and shorts were among the collection’s most engaging and wearable pieces.
In the past Savant has gone slightly concept heavy, but this season was a promising step forward for the duo. The proportions of the collection—mostly mini and sheer—paired with the clean and graphic makeup of Kristin Gallegos and artfully bedraggled hair by Andre Gunn gave the viewer an insight to the Savant client: a stylish 20-something who has serious style (and good legs), that understands how to dress and can see beyond the all-black ferocity of “dressing up”. Kudos to Savant for using bold colors: kelly green and royal violet paired down with creamy whites and olive green. Also noteworthy was the attention to detail and fit; loungewear-inspired pieces were impressively finished, conveying the illusion that they had been designed and produced from the inside out.
Brooklyn-based band Mirror Mirror provided the live soundtrack, which gave the models a killer baseline to step to as a whispering computer-filtered voice softened their stride, infusing the designers’ efforts with a slightly cerebral and definitely more sophisticated air.
