Show: Robert Geller
Date: September 10, 2011
Time: 7pm
Venue: Pier 59 Studios
Inspiration: Updated dandy, with a slight ’70s twist.
Favorite Look: Cornflower blue pleated pants paired with an eggshell shirt and crewneck, open-weave navy sweater and tonal woodblock necklace.
Additional: Everyone gathered at the window prior to the show to watch the sunset, emitting a collective, “Ahhhhhhh.” -SY

Show: JF & Son
Date: September 8, 2011
Time: 8pm
Venue: JF & Sons at 56 University Place
Inspiration: JF & Son enlisted artist Amy Yao to try her hand at fashion. She in turn, looked to iconic fashion designers, like YSL and Martin Margiela, to create a cheeky take on industry classics.
Music: Singapore nightclub
Favorite Look: The Mother in Law: a matching white chiffon sleeveless top and skirt embellished with multi-string pearl necklaces—from neckline to hemline.
Quotes:
“We pursue regular collaborations with artists because they make our company more open. Katie and I design in a very specific way and we’re drawn to similar things, but were not interested in a resolved vision of our ‘brand.’ Another Masterpiece!! offers a good counterpoint to our own fall collection: sequins, pearls, charmeuse, human hair, sausages, bananas and all.” -Jesse Finkelstein, JF & Son co-founder and designer
“In the end it was a real collaboration. Many friends were involved with all levels of the production. The project is a conceptual one and the presentation is a performance using the format of the runway show. -Amy Yao
Additional Notes: Starting out in production, the duo behind JF & Son (Jesse Finkelstein, and Katie King) have—for lack of better cliché—put their money where their mouth is. Encouraging customers to view clothing consumption with the same reverence that “locavores” view food provenance, their designs incorporate hand beading from India, production from their own factory in China and pieces manufactured in America’s Mid-West. Also…the pre-made cocktails from VnC New Zealand were surprisingly delicious, particularly the mojito. – ED

Show: Honor
Date: September 10, 2011
Time: 4pm
Venue: Lincoln Center
Inspiration: Romantic ’50s
Music: Jorge Elebrecht
Best Look: A windowpane lace georgette gown in nude and baby blue worn with large leather-and-gold collar.
Additional Notes: The angelic combination of silk organza cupcake dresses, chiffon knee highs and Repetto Mary Jane pumps with the addition of ultra androgynous patent leather Dieppa Restrepos revealed designer Giovanna Randall’s fantastical Alice in Wonderland-like world. -JC

Show: Graeme Armour
Date: September 10, 2011
Time: 7:30pm
Venue: Milk Studios Penthouse
Music: Ian Robinson
Inspiration:
Favorite Look: A deconstructed, reconstructed white pantsuit featuring slightly tapered trousers and a one-button blazer. Both were interspersed with sheer squares of black chiffon and paired with a cutout black halter.
Quote: “I think [the color palette] fits with what we do. There’s a little bit of a Japanese element so it just kind of sprung up. And we always do leather!” –Graeme Armour
Additional Notes: Crisp monochrome faded to metallic greys and then to fuschia, which served as the soul of the minimalist, modern collection. -RT
