It was fitting that Risto Bimbiloski found inspiration in the beginning of life on earth for S/S10, since this season marked his first runway show in New York and the fourth collection for his womenswear label, Risto. “Simultaneous storms and volcano eruptions theoretically provoked the creation of life on early Earth,” he said. “I think it’s so random, powerful, dangerous and extremely beautiful.”
Throughout the collection, bold blue and orange prints simulating lightning and lava made an appearance, printed over silk cotton and jersey pieces, such as caftans, catsuits and leggings. Bimbiloski, who also works as a men’s knitwear designer for Louis Vuitton, incorporated some signature knit and crochet slices, including some jaw-dropping baby-fine gold and silver chains, for subtle shimmer and texture. As for the electrifying prints that are becoming his hallmark? The Paris-based designer reveals: “I develop my prints on exclusive bases in Italy. The prints are always complex, so we go for digital ink jet prints on different bases.”
