Market Publique

There’s something about the slightly gritty, nostalgic feel of polyester that seems impossible to replicate online, but Market Publique has done it. A Brooklyn baby like Dossier, the online, auction-based vintage marketplace has been explained as the eBay of vintage clothing but deserves more of a descriptor.

Launched this past month, the site collates vintage garments and accessories from various sellers and presents them in an aesthetic manner that enables detailed examination. Unlike a Buffalo Exchange-type situation, the selection is curated so less time is spent sifting. A gold star goes to Candy Castle, a seller who correlates music videos with its offerings. Viewing a 70s boho hippie dress to the soundtrack and visuals of Dead Meadow’s “What Needs Must Be” contextualizes the item in a way that is second only to a stroll down Haight Street.
