Rowena Sartin and Souvenir designer Kristin Dickson opened Iko Iko with a bang on Saturday night. Curated by Dickson every 12 weeks, the minimal and eclectic new space brings together designers, artists, performers and more. On the fashion side, there is Rowena Sartin’s new collection: a colorful, flower-filled ode to the ’90s, jewelry by Hannah Keefe and a claw bracelet by Win Bowers.
Artistic leanings include PJ Risse’s sculpture, an uncanny life-like Faye Dunaway mask placed in an open briefcase and strewn with fresh flowers. Two photographs by Vivian Joyner detail the interiors of Southern-style mansions and hang alongside images by Deborah Turbeville. Yvonne Lynne’s rock totems line the windowsills while textiles and art books are scattered throughout. Dickson also commissioned rock boxes from artist Daniel Hope, which are designed to house crystals and gems. Making it a family affair, Dickson’s father, Greg, has created Donald Judd-esque chairs and tables in black and white. Meanwhile, her mother, Gloria, catered the opening.
The guests were a mix of cool fashion kids, family friends, artists and architects. Secret Ceremony DJ’d a mix of Egyptian Lover, Human League, Uffie and Mark Tovey. By midnight, the crowd had slowly dwindled and Kristin’s family toasted her with champagne.
