As a child, I found How the Grinch Stole Christmas more disturbing than entertaining, though I was happy to emulate the Whos’ striped socks and top knots. Then there were Nancy and Plum’s boarding school-chic plaits and plaid. ‘Tis the season for fashion and fantastic children’s tales, and now we’ve got another one for you: Snowman in Africa by Michael Roberts of Snowman in a Paradise fame. Oh, and he also happens to be the Fashion & Style director of Vanity Fair. But this isn’t your ordinary tale of a snowman surviving a scorching climate, it is part of a charitable collaboration between Gucci and Roberts to raise funds for the annual Gucci Campaign to Benefit UNICEF.
Along with commissioning the book, Gucci Creative Director Frida Gianni created a number of limited-edition Snowman-inspired accessories and an exclusive Gucci Gift Card. From medium sized Gucci Joy bags (pictured above) to symbolic charms and a playful prints, all items carry the Snowman inspiration and 100% of the retail price of the book will go to UNICEF. Since 2005, the campaign has supported education, heath care, protection and clean water programs for orphans and children affected by AIDS/HIV in sub-Saharan Africa.
Speaking of hot climates…on December 1st the Italian house was down in Miami at Art Basel inaugurating the second leg of the Gucci Icon Temporary: a traveling pop-up sneaker store created in cooperation with Mark Ronson. If you missed the southern incarnation, don’t worry. The new year starts with a March stop in London.

Great holiday piece to remind everyone that fashion does have a heart and a moral conscience.
