I’ll admit it: Sometimes I need a reminder to get excited for the upcoming fashion weeks—not because my love of beautiful clothing and creative expression is on the wane, but because four weeks of endless shows is exhausting. They’re also predicting a blizzard in New York. Luckily, Paris-based photographer Randy Harris, a regular Dossier contributor, forwarded me these magnificent images of the the recent Jean Paul Gaultier haute couture show.
I’ve always viewed Gaultier as the ringmaster of an exquisite Twin Peaks-esque fantastic carnival. And this season the maestro was in supremely inventive form, introducing us to a Seuss-like place where Mexican cowgirls rock lamé, Caribbean pirates dance in refined lace, senoritas sport sombreros and the bride always wears red. So extravagant and dream inducing is this world and its wardrobe, why would I want to be anywhere but fashion week?
