Erin Fetherston at NY Fashion Week F/W10

I had a romantic evening with Erin Fetherston on Valentine’s Day. It all began with flutes of pink champagne passed pre-show, and roses and chocolates placed thoughtfully on every seat at the designer’s F/W10 show at Milk Studios. Then the lights dimmed and music featuring the haunting voice of Nico from The Velvet Underground accompanied models wearing the label’s delightfully frothy, vintage-inspired pieces with long, straight hair and blunt bangs à la Fetherston.

There was a lot to love, from with the beige wool cashmere cape with a single-tier flounce to the whimsical bird-print dresses and innovative mixing of lace, velvet and chiffon.  Though Fetherston referenced late ’60s style by naming the collection Chelsea Girl—after Nico’s debut solo album—and featuring pieces reminiscent of that era (the bow-front blouse and velvet suiting, for example), she stepped up to modern times with fresh concepts, such as a black jersey banded top layered with lace and the final march of metallic pieces.
