Alexander Wang is one of those rare designers that I’ve loved from day one—like Nicolas Ghesquiere or Riccardo Tisci. Perhaps it’s a generational thing, as season after season, he selects nostalgic elements from my formative fashion years—flannels, ripped jeans, beanies, cropped tops—and reworks them into an indefinable, inspirational mishmash. Case in point: this season’s gym separates, leopard print slides and headwear, which harken back to Empire Records and my high school boyfriend. Combined with unconventional silhouettes and a particular transparent black dress worn by Lily Donaldson, they create a completely amazing vision for spring.
