Being middle class and Scandinavian prepares one for a bleak future. However two Helsinki DJs, Downtown and Jaxxon, made it through the jungle, although without house music they would already be dead or in lower management – or both. Their collaborative project Renaissance Man, is one of the highlights of Turku Modern, a new electronic music festival in Finland. Hailing from the new breed of Helsinki club survivors, they bless the world with a mixture of all things kick drum and a sophisticated and novel conception of contemporary dance music. Their track “Rythym” is on the recently released Kitsuné Maison 7 compilation and their brilliant Aloha EP was put out in June by Sound Pellegrino.

Why would growing up middle class in one of the wealthiest regions on the planet prepare one for a bleak future? Renaissance Man are great though.
