Jazz & Milk

The Munich-based label Jazz & Milk is on a mission. The mission is to free jazz and funk from misconceptions. One being that the only people who listen to those styles of music are either retired dentists, lawyers and teachers or world music aficionados. That’s why label boss Dusty, a much sought after DJ in the Munich area, but also internationally active, decided to give these already somewhat faded belles a new twist and launched his Jazz & Milk label D.I.Y.-style. But Dusty is not alone on his mission. Along for the ride are none other than the infamous Romanowski, owner of more than 15,000 records, whose shows go by the motto: “If you can dance to it, I play it” and who might be known to some from Rae and Christian’s Another Late Night album. They’ve also released Rube, Mr. Chop’s groundbreaking EP Sounds from the Cave, Christian Doepke, and mixes and compilations with guests like Free The Robots and Proxy.

Just looking at the label’s homepage or their record covers really tells you something about where these guys come from. Everything is designed beautifully and with a lot of love for small details. This really is a label made by music lovers for music lovers. So if you happen to be in Munich one day, don’t forget to check out one of Dusty’s DJ sets. Jazz, Funk, Breaks, Soul, Bossa, Rock, it’s all in the mix and a fantastic time is guaranteed.

Those of you who aren’t completely convinced by now should just go to their website and download Dusty’s dope mix Got a Brand New Sound and the live turntable-piano performance done by Dusty and Christian Doepke for free and you’ll just find yourself spending all of your money on this label’s small but very fine record selection.
