Last weekend, I finally made it to The Newspaper Series at Film Forum. I highly recommend it to anyone who feels nostalgic for a time when a newspaperman was newspaperman and print was the main currency – or to anyone who simply enjoys a double feature on a rainy afternoon. I saw Nothing Sacred and Roxie Hart (the basis for Chicago) – two movies about women taking advantage of scandal hungry newspapers.
The series is already well underway, but there is still time to check out a few classics. I am most excited for next Sunday – Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn in a double feature (Woman of the Year and The Philadelphia Story). The last movie shown as part of this series is a personal favorite – I already marked my calendar for All the President’s Men on May 6th.
