Is it wrong to want to sleep with a pair of jeans? What if they’re French? What if they’ve been hugging your legs all day? I recently picked up a couple of pairs of April 77 Records jeans at the Barney’s Warehouse Sale here in NYC, and I can’t help but spend every minute of the day wearing them.
Founded by Frenchman Brice Partouche, April 77 Records pays homage to the punk rock aesthetic of the late 70s and blurs the line between music and fashion. Each piece of clothing comes with a cute faux-vinyl record that allows the purchaser to download a 2-track single by the April 77 Records “Artist of the Month.” The FAQ on their website sums it up: Our clothing is music, and music lives on our clothing.
While you’re checking out April 77 Records, you should also have a look at the April 77 brand, which is more experimental and less straightforward than the denim-focussed offerings of the former. In keeping with the music-is-fashion-is-music ethos, April 77′s Fall/Winter 2008-09 collection is reportedly inspired by The Jesus and Mary Chain.
But I digress — back to my denim summer romance. Almost all of the April 77 Records jeans contain 2% elasthan, so they’re super-comfortable. They’re also constructed with cruelty free materials. Conscience. Clear. The moral of the story: get a pair — make babies.
If you’re currently in the honeymoon period with a pair of jeans, please let us know by leaving a comment.
