Band of Outsiders @ NY Fashion Week

Meteorologically, it was a bleak start to Fashion Week in NYC, with torrential rain falling across the city on Saturday. Fortunately, this did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the fashion set as I checked out the Spring 2009 collection from Band of Outsiders (and their women’s line, Boy.,) at the Penthouse of Milk Studios in the Meatpacking District.

Rather than a conventional runway show, Band of Outsiders staged a series of video vignettes featuring models Kirsten DunstMax Minghella and Charles Hamilton.  The collection itself was largely mod- and early 80s-inspired — vests, cardigans and skinny ties; grey and khaki tuxedo pieces for guys and gals; short suit options (awesome!); double-breasted outerwear and a selection of madras patchwork pieces for guys. As we’ve come to expect from Scott Sternberg and Band of Outsiders, all of the pieces were interesting interpretations on simple concepts with exceptional craftsmanship.

The collection also featured shoes created in collaboration with Sperry Top-Sider and Manolo Blahnik and hats in collaboration with Patricia Underwood.

Stay tuned for more updates from New York Fashion Week as the program continues!
