Lomography is the cute cousin of photography who yells “just shoot!” when the photographer is deliberating over the perfect angle. For Lomo, it’s not about aperture or shutter speed or depth of field or composition; it’s not about thinking. It’s about, well, shooting. The official Lomo motto is “don’t think, just shoot.” As you can imagine, many of the resulting images are charming, offbeat snaps of life being lived, rather than documented.
There are numerous types of Lomographic cameras, the images above are from a SuperSampler, which has four linear lenses, but there is a large range of Lomo cameras. There’s an arachnid (eight lenses!), the popular Holga, ones with fish-eyes, some with colourful flashes and ones that can swim with you. Some people get really into it, collecting them all; others attempt to master just one Lomographic style. All are motivated by the same mantra: just shoot. Most Lomos take regular film and can be found in the cool shops around town.
