The picture above is of a couple who were married today in Iowa. Iowa started issuing marriage licenses today to same-sex couples following their State Supreme Court ruling earlier this month that the ban on gay marriages violated the equal protection clause of the Constitution (duh). So now if you’re gay and you want to get married, you can do so in Canada, Belgium, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the liberal bastion of Iowa. I love having that last place on the list because it really takes the bite out of the argument that gay marriage in America is a spoke in the liberal agenda. Well done to Iowans for using common sense, decency and fairness to decide this - and bringing American values back to the heartland.
Now my only question is: when is New York going to catch up to Iowa?
