Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No by James Blagden

In 1970 Dock Ellis, who passed away last December, pitched a no hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates while on acid.  For part of the game he was convinced Nixon was the umpire and occasionally that Jimi Hendrix was at the plate.  No Mas presents James Blagden‘s Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No.

My Parents Were Awesome

Heartwarming website of the day: My Parents Were Awesome.  When I go home for the holidays I’m going to do my best to find a suitable photo of Jane and Jeff. Thanks to Erika Wall.

New jj Video and Salem Remix at Sincerely Yours

Gothenburg-based label Sincerely Yours has just added two beautiful works to their site.  The first is a new video for the mysterious band jj directed by Marcus Söderlund (interviewed by Dossier a month ago).  The second is a remix of Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane by Salem, who I enthused about here a few months ago.

Lightspeed Champion Watches the Worst Movies of All Time

Throughout my adolescence I maintained that the worst movie I ever saw in the theaters was The Big Blue, which my mother made me see with her when I was eight. Today I realize that I wasn’t old enough to appreciate Luc Besson’s erotic (I remember it being erotic) tale of the rivalry between two free divers [...]

I don’t know what Adam Curtis transatlantic reputation stands at, my guess is rather low. I remember sending a copy of The Power Of Nightmares to an American cousin of mine, only to have it dismissed as inferior to Loose Change. Nevertheless, Curtis stands alongside someone like David Simon as a great reluctant reactionary, an [...]

Breakfast at Sulimay’s

When you’re 15, you’re usually into one kind of music, exclusively – be it punk or hip hop or techno or zydeco. Somebody else likes another style of music? He or she is wrong and dumb and boring and mainstream. When you’re 18 and you look back at what you listened to three years earlier [...]
