New York-based artist and writer Michael David Quattlebaum, Jr. will be launching his first book of poetry this Friday at the OHWOW Book Club, followed by a series of readings by the artist, as well as Jack Walls and Stefon Bondell. Quattlebaum, who founded the performance collective No Fear and performs regularly under the alias Mykki Blanco, draws heavily from folklore and oral traditions to challenge a contemporary indifference to spirituality. From the Silence of Duchamp to the Noise of Boys is informed by Quattlebaum’s own experience coming of age in the Pacific Northwest and as a runaway in New York at sixteen, by mysticism, metaphysics and psychedelia. Quattlebaum’s poems seek out a point of unity between the primitive energy of mystical rite and the raw vitality of youth.
A book release and signing for From the Silence of Duchamp to the Noise of Boys will take place Friday, June 17 from 6 – 7.30 pm at OHWOW Book Club, 227 Waverly Place, NYC. Immediately following will be an evening of poetry with readins by Jack Walls, Stefon Bondell and Michael David Quattlebaum, Jr. at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, 224 Waverly Place, NYC.
