A few days ago, Creative Time launched The Last Pictures, an archival disc created by artist Trevor Paglen, into outer space, where it will orbit the earth, affixed to the exterior of the communications satellite EchoStar XVI, maybe forever (or close to it). Paglen, who works with sound, video and installation, selected 100 photographs to represent human history. The photographs were them micro-etched onto a silicon disc encased in a gold-plated shell designed at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Carleton College.
The complete set of images can be found in The Last Pictures book, co-published by Creative Time Books and University of California Press, which available for purchase in bookstores and online. The video below explains the project.
