Opening today at Union Gallery is a month long exhibit where Rebeca Raney will be an artist-in-residence of sorts, churning out 1000 drawings over the course of her stay to populate her own fictional world, “RaneyTown.” People are encouraged to come and talk to her and give her inspiration while she creates her own town of drawings. It sounds a little like my childhood only way more glamorous. If you can’t make it, all of her progress will documented on the website RaneyTown. The closing party where you can see the final result is June 4th and includes a party with songs and performances by Raney and Ithai Benjamin.

[...] This isn’t Raneytown’s debut—it’s a constantly growing project—but this time, it’s more expansive. A Miami native, Raney has spent time building and constructing this version of Raneytown in her childhood home. Maybe the languid vibe of pre-basel Miami has given her pieces a bit of extra magic, but that’s unlikely—place Raney anywhere and she’ll make it luminous. This includes the world of retail. As part of a collaboration with Madewell, Raney has designed a line of pieces bearing her signature humor and adorable kitsch, inspired by her signature flowers and backwards llamas. The collection includes a silk top, pendant necklace, a leather tote, cards, stationary, and more, ranging from $6.50 to $375. The line will debut at Madewell stores in Miami, Los Angeles, and New York. Check out the video of Rebeca talking about her collaboration below. [...]
