The Overexposure portrait series, shot during Art Basel, is photographer Greg Kessler’s reaction to the hype and frenzy that the festival is bathed in, but not necessarily in a bad way. What was once a small art festival in Miami has exploded into a yearly gathering of people directly or indirectly connected to the fair. The artists, gallerists, collectors, and passers-by shot for this project were selected by chance encounters and recommendations from friends and other artists. They are seen standing before a media-ready world, which is poised to get behind them and project them forward. By overexposing them in the photographs, we no longer see what surrounds them. In fact we can barely make out where they are at all.
