Reconstruction of the Hudson River Plane Landing

Click play for the recreation of the US Airways flight from LaGuardia that pilot Capt. Chelsey Sullenberger landed in the Hudson last January after a bird strike over New York.  It was the first time in 50 years of commercial jet flight that a jetliner was landed successfully in water without fatalities.

A Parody of an American Rap Star

Back in August I posted the video for Trauma House‘s outstanding remix of Clipse and Kanye’s “Kinda Like a Big Deal.”  They are back with Dr. Plot & Professor Problems’ audio-visual portrait of 50 Cent – “It’s 50!” – and a new website featuring all of their videos.

Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No by James Blagden

In 1970 Dock Ellis, who passed away last December, pitched a no hitter for the Pittsburgh Pirates while on acid.  For part of the game he was convinced Nixon was the umpire and occasionally that Jimi Hendrix was at the plate.  No Mas presents James Blagden‘s Dock Ellis & The LSD No-No.

An amazing ten year old kid from Arkansas refuses to say the Pledge of Allegiance until gays and lesbians have equal rights.  See CNN for the wonderful interview.

jj – “Ecstasy”

Earlier today I posted a link to jj’s new video.  Here is an oddly mesmerizing video apparently made by a fan for their song “Ecstasy“, off of their full length jj n° 2.

New jj Video and Salem Remix at Sincerely Yours

Gothenburg-based label Sincerely Yours has just added two beautiful works to their site.  The first is a new video for the mysterious band jj directed by Marcus Söderlund (interviewed by Dossier a month ago).  The second is a remix of Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane by Salem, who I enthused about here a few months ago.

Today I realize that I wasn’t old enough to appreciate Luc Besson’s erotic (I remember it being erotic) tale of the rivalry between two free divers [...]

“It’s like two beautiful birds singing in my ribcage.”

Here is a perfect occasion to utilize our under-used “Sports” category.  A wonderful pass by Barcelona’s Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic accompanied by what has to be the sports commentary of the year by Ray Hudson of GolTV.

Grizzly Bear’s “Ready, Able”

Off of Veckatimest and directed by Allison Schulnik. Best claymation video since Green Jello’s “Three Little Pigs“?

Zizek in today’s NY Times

There is an op-ed in today’s NY Times by Slavoj Zizek on the anniversary of the Berlin Wall entitled “20 Years of Collapse”. Zizek’s choice of Victor Kravchenko as emblem for our current cultural-political stasis is quiet bleak but his life story does seem to embody a certain zeitgeist. To crudely summarize a life: sickened [...]
