Chris Duncan’s second solo show, opening this Thursday at the Jeff Bailey Gallery, explores the artist’s obsession with a split LP released on Dischord Records in 1982. “Faith Void Split” featured 12 songs by each band, Faith and the Void, and its contradictions in message and tone made a huge impact on Duncan.
Faith’s music was introspective and hopeful; The Void’s was dark and wildly chaotic. Duncan’s own work features a similar contrast: bursts of color and positive, vibrant work alongside stark monochromes and darker, more despairing pieces.
The show runs from Sept. 4th to Oct. 4th, and the opening reception this Thursday from 6-8pm will feature a performance by The Urxed. The limited-edition exhibition catalogue, Between The Beginning and the End #2, will be hand-numbered and signed.
