Armsrock is a hunter and gatherer. A hunter and gatherer of photos, newspaper clippings, images, impressions, of information in general. The artist sits enthroned on this towering inferno of human remnants called archives and tries to see beyond the madness in order to share his point of view with you. Yes, you! Armsrock’s work can oftentimes be found where you least expect it. You wander along that hidden trail you thought only you knew, only to stumble over one of Armsrock’s characters. He is the pathfinder that will discover the most remote spots of your urban settlement and make them even more magical. And the moment you’ve found the wounded soldier, the old lady with her wicker or the lonely drunk, Armsrock’s efforts have payed off. And how!
The good folks at Intoxicated Demons Gallery in Berlin made the Armsrock experience this summer even more convenient for you, the lazy customer. You don’t need to venture out into that uncharted urban wilderness any longer; they have brought his work right into their beautiful exhibition space and fittingly named it A horrible jungle. Armsrock’s first solo exhibit in Berlin was a huge collage-style instalation that covered almost all of the exhibiton space’s walls. The multiple layers of his art absolutely consumed the observers attention and even after the tenth lap through the gallery there were still hidden connections and secret alliances to be found between the different characters. Armsrock’s work is raw, aggressive, charged with political messages and often depressing. One thing that inmediately hits the observer is that his gallery work is far less detailed and filigree as the stuff he puts out on the streets. The discussion of street art/urban art in galleries has been discussed excessively lately, but if this doesn’t prove that Armsrock has a lot of love for the streets, a whole lot more than for the galleries, then I don’t know what does.
Now here’s the good news for all the people in New York. Armsrock has taken his art all the way to the U.S. and you can marvel at his amazing work at the Ad Hoc Art Gallery in Brooklyn until the 6th of September. So hurry up!
